Can Hermann Tortoises eat Eggs, Fresh or Hard-boiled?

Naturally, eggs are not part of diet for Hermann tortoises. Nevertheless, your tortoise will love to crunch on it if offered.

However, that does not mean it is safe for them as eggs although rich in cacium and minerals also contain fats and proteins that aren’t healthy for your reptile.

With that being said, small bites on occassions will do no harm.

Can Hermann Tortoises eat Eggs

In the 70’s hardboiled eggs and eggsell used to be a recommended part of a tortoise diet. But so was bread soaked in milk! Ever since that time, captive bred tortoise care infomation has advanced a long way since that time.

While chicken eggshell might have some value as a calcium source there are plenty of better sources and products out there nowadays that do a better job.

So, should you be feeding your torts eggs? I don’t think so! unless on occasions as treats!

You can boil (to kill salmonella) egg shells and crush them fine and the tortoises will eat them. However, there are better sources of calcium like a cuttlebone out there!
