Cucumber is safe for Horsefield tortoise to eat as long as the ratio of cucumber to beneficial greens is correct. You can continue to add it to every meal for as long as you follow this rule.
Typically, I grate a cucumber into the bowl of chopped greens and weeds and mix it all up. This guarantees the babies will “eat their vegetables”, so to speak!
Can Horsefield Tortoise Eat Cucumber?
Yes! Horse field tortoise can feed on cucumber but it should not be their main source of food. As you already know, cucumber only contains water, so has no goodness for the tortoise at all. Same thing goes for Water Melon which too much of can and will make them ill.

My Tort only eats cucumbers, what can I do?
Lately, there has been reports by some new tortoise owners of their tortoise taking a likening to eating only cucumber. Well, here’s what to do to change that.
Get some frozen baby carrots, micro wave in water for a couple of minutes (7 minutes). They should be soft but not mushy and full of water.
There won’t be much health benefits left in the carrots, but they do like them, just a couple of little ones, but add some sowthistle or dandelions to the carrots to get the tort eating and reduce the carrots, increase the weeds as time goes by.
The water in the carrots keeps your tortoise hydrated.
